Project Description
The Correctional Services Pretoria facility is a sprawling, multi-functional site and receives water supply directly from the City Of Tshwane via a bulk supply point. Water usage on sure incorporates large staff housing areas, offices and admin facilities, four separate prisons and a bulk supply to the adjacent Provincial hospital.
As a result of poor maintenance, 80% of the water used on the facility, is lost through aged and leaking water distribution infrastructure and broken fittings.
In order to limit losses occurring on site and to gain better control of the infrastructure, Reonet has implemented the following key interventions on site;
- Extensive investigation and auditing to update water reticulation drawings including an audit of valves and meters throughout the facility
- Installation of check meters at bulk supply points and zonal meters to determine real losses at each zone
- Installation of proprietary AMR technology – RealSens for proactive management of reservoirs and water supply networks
- Develop optimum and discrete pressure zones
- Development of baselines and benchmarks
- Step Testing and Minimum Night Flow analysis
- Identifying and ring-fencing of non-NDPW users
- Pressure control
- Ongoing leak detection and repair throughout the premises
- Ongoing audit and repair of plumbing fittings
Project Benefits
The project delivered the following benefits:
- Average real water saving of 13%
- Recovery of water costs for supply to non-NDPW users in excess of R10 million
- Further water cost savings in excess of R17 million
- No capital investment required from the client
- Improvement in operational infrastructure
- Ongoing management and early detection and repair of leaks and losses
